Memento — Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 12, 2026

Memento is a birthday-reminder app. This policy explains what data Memento collects, why, and who processes it. If anything here is unclear, contact us at realme87@gmail.com.

Getting started without an account

You can use Memento without creating a login. On first launch, Memento automatically creates a private, anonymous identity for your device (no email address or personal information is required for this). Your birthdays and groups are stored on your device and are also privately backed up under that anonymous identity using Firebase Cloud Firestore, so a temporary loss of network connectivity doesn't affect the app.

This anonymous identity is tied to your device: if you lose or replace your device without ever adding an email/password or Google login, that backup may not be recoverable. Adding a portable login (email/password or Google) later makes the same backup — not a new copy — recoverable from another device.

What data Memento collects

Who processes your data

Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore — both Google services — are the only third-party services that process your data. Memento does not include advertising SDKs or analytics SDKs, and does not sell your data or share it with advertisers or other third parties. Signing in with Google uses Google's own sign-in service to verify your identity; no additional data beyond what's needed for authentication is requested.

Shared data visibility

Shared birthdays are visible only to members with an accepted membership in that specific shared group. This is enforced by server-side security rules on our backend, not only by what the app's interface happens to show — an invited-but-not-yet-accepted, declined, or removed member cannot read that group's shared birthdays at all. Declining an invite or being removed from a group revokes that access immediately.

Reminders and notifications

All reminders — for your own birthdays and for shared birthdays you can see — are scheduled and delivered locally on your device using your device's own notification system. Memento does not use push notifications, and no reminder content is ever transmitted to or stored on any server.

Data sharing

Children's privacy

Memento is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Data retention and deletion

You can request deletion of your account and data at any time. See our Delete Your Account & Data page for how.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
